【摘要】:ThispartofBS5499providesguidanceontheselectionanduseofescaperoutesignsconformingtoBS5499-1providedasfiresafetysignswithinbuildings.ItsatisfiestherequirementsoftheHealthandSafety(SafetySignsandSignals)Regulations1996(SINo.341)andexistingfiresafetylegislation.Itgivesadviceontheuseoftheappropriategraphicalsymbol,theuseofsupplementarytexttoassistintheinterpretationofsignsandtheuseofarrowstoprovideadditionaldirectionalinformation.ThispartofBS5499doesnotstipulateifandwhenescaperoutesignswillberequired.TheCodeappliestopremiseswheretheformalriskassessmentcarriedoutundermanagementofhealthandsafety,andinparticularTheFirePrecautions(Workplace)Regulationsasamended,hasindicatedaneedforescaperoutesignstoformanintegralpartofnormalworkingprocedures.Thisneedexistswherethepremisesarecomplexormaybeunfamiliartoanyoftheoccupants.ThedeterminationoftheneedforescaperoutesigningisoutsidethescopeofthisCode.ThisCodeassumesthattheriskassessmentortherequirementofanenforcingauthorityhasestablishedaneedforescaperoutesigning.However,signscanbeusedwithadvantageinmostpremises,otherthandomesticpremises.TheCodeisintendedtocovertheuseofallescaperoutesigningsystemswithinpremises.Recommendationsaregivenfortheselectionoftheappropriatetypeofsign,thelocationofsigns,mountingpositions,lightingandmaintenance.TherecommendationswithinthisCodecoverhigh-mountedsignsasspecifiedbyBS5499-1.Low-mountedwayguidancesystemsarenotcoveredbutshouldconformtotherecommendationsofBS5266-2forelectrically-poweredsystemsorBS5266-6fornon-electricalsystems.
